We only package books that are graded as, ‘As New’, ‘Fine’ or ‘Very Good’

• As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published.  This could be the description for a book that has been kept in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old
• Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages.
• Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper.

           General wear in the Very Good grade may also include;

• Dog-eared pages
• A name written inside
• Light wear on the cover
• Minor sun or slight yellowing on the edges

Curating second-hand books is our specialty, the process of carefully selecting and organising used books to create a collection that reflects quality, diversity, and engaging content. This involves evaluating each book’s condition, content, and relevance, as well as ensuring a mix of genres and themes to offer readers a variety of choices. The curator, often with personal taste and research, aims to provide a thoughtful and enjoyable selection that enhances the reading experience. 

We source our books from secondhand stores, social media or accepting donations.

Our goal is to prevent books from ending up in landfills because by opting for used books, we decrease the demand for new ones, which helps lessen the need for paper production and the resulting deforestation, energy use, and carbon emissions. 

If you receive a mystery book you've already read you may have a few options:

1. Keep the Book: Since returns aren't accepted, you could choose to keep the book. Perhaps you can gift it to a friend or donate it.
2. Resell or Trade: You might consider reselling the book or trading it with another reader to find something new.
3. Future Purchases: For future purchases, you could create a journal of read books so when you read the 'hint card' you will recognise you have read something the same or similar before.
4. Talk to your Seller: We are happy for you to quietly ask us if the book is a specific Title & Author, we won't tell you what is in the package unless you name it.

Whether it’s from your past blind dates or a collection of titles you no longer want, we’re here to take them off your hands! For every 3 books you donate to us at once, you can select another mystery to unwrap free of charge!

Provided your order has not yet been dispatched, please get in touch with Amanda at amanda@bookedinballarat.com.au and she will provide you with the required assistance. 

Send us a message. We’ll let you know which date it was posted on, and what the tracking number is. Other than that – we wish we could control how long it takes Auspost to get our books out to you, but unfortunately we don’t have that kind of control! You’ll need to give anywhere up to 2 weeks for it to arrive in more remote locations. 

We do not accept returns, refunds, or exchanges.  Part of the charm of a blind date with a book is the mystery, and while we provide hint cards to guide your choice, there’s always a chance you may receive a book you’ve encountered before.  Your purchase goes beyond just the book itself—it reflects the thought, care, and effort put into curating each selection. Because of this, all sales are final.  Every book is carefully assessed before being sent out to ensure it is in readable condition.
